Romantic films have a greater recall value than thrillers or action films, says Bhushan Kumar of T-series, the producer of the upcoming romantic movie ‘Sanam Re’.
The film, starring Yami Gautam and Pulkit Samrat, has been directed by his wife Divya Khosla Kumar, and releases on February 12, ahead of the most romantic day in the year –
“As a production house, we have tried all kinds of films,” explains Bhushan. “The last major romantic film was ours – ‘Aashiqui 2.’ Romantic films have a greater recall value. People still talk about ‘Aashiqui,’ and that’s the reason ‘Aashiqui 2’ was made after 20 years. Nobody will make a thriller after 20 years. After ‘Yaariyan’ (a rom-com, her first directorial venture), I thought Divya would make ‘Yaariyan 2,’ but she came up with the idea of making a romantic film, which I was looking forward to. We have also already announced another romantic venture.”
Divya feels that romantic films that people can connect with are rare. “I feel that in today’s time, the world is so fast-moving that we get lost. There is this dialogue in the film – “Bade sheheron me shayad isliye itna shor hota hai taki koi apne dil ki awaaz na sun paye” – and that’s how I feel it is; we have all stopped listening to our hearts. ‘Sanam Re’ is a tale that tells you to just listen to your heart and learn how to live life,” she says. What better movie to watch, then, this Valentine’s weekend?
